Answer:

Hi Eric, Unfortunately, if liver cancer is found in the final stages it might be hard to fix especially if it has become metastatic. A liver transplant is usually the only way to survive. The following are the symptoms of final stage of liver cancer Cirrhosis,Jaundice,Metastasized,Fever,Lo… of Appetite,Pain.sleep. you can get more information about every stages of liver cancer. from www.livercancer-stage.com. this might help you know what you are going to face during the rest of your friends life.

liver cancer Stage one Inflammation
The liver can get inflamed due to certain conditions, use of alcohol and certain chemicals. The conditions that can cause liver inflammation are Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Autoimmune Hepatitis, and Wilson’s disease. Extensive alcohol use also causes inflammation of the liver. Some drugs and industrial pollutants may affect the liver. Inflammation is characterized by redness, swelling, heat and possible pain in the liver.

liver cancer Stage two Fibrosis

The second stage of liver disease is fibrosis or scar tissues. After the liver has been inflamed for a long period, connective tissues of the liver accumulate. At this stage the liver functions slowly degrade.

liver cancer Stage three Cirrhosis

The third stage of liver disease is called cirrhosis. When liver has been damaged due to inflammation and fibrosis, it does not function properly. Accumulation of scar tissues blocks blood flow through the liver, preventing it from functioning normally. Some of the symptoms of end stage cirrhosis are edema, bruising and bleeding, jaundice, gallstones, and an increase of toxins in the blood, enlarged blood vessels, and diabetes.

liver cancer Stage four Cancer

If liver disease is not treated in the earlier three stages, cancer may develop. Liver cancer, or hepatocellular carcinoma, affects approximately 4% of patients with cirrhosis. A liver transplant is one of the options for treating liver cancer.

Inflammation, Fibrosis,Cirrhosis,Cancer are the four stages of Liver Disease.

the first stage of Liver Cancer: Inflammation

the first stage of Liver Cancer: Inflammation. Study show that a connection between inflammation and cancer has been long suspected. Epidemiological studies have established that many tumors occur in association with chronic infectious diseases, and it is also known that persistent inflammation in the absence of infections increases the risk and accelerates the development of cancer. One clear example of inflammation-related cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The molecular links that connect inflammation and cancer are not completely known, but evidences gathered over the past few years are beginning to define the precise mechanisms.

In some types of cancer, inflammatory conditions are present before a malignant change occurs. Conversely, in other types of cancer, an oncogenic change induces an inflammatory microenvironment that promotes the development of tumours. Regardless of its origin, ’smouldering’ inflammation in the tumour microenvironment has many tumour-promoting effects. It aids in the proliferation and survival of malignant cells, promotes angiogenesis and metastasis, subverts adaptive immune responses, and alters responses to hormones and chemotherapeutic agents. The molecular pathways of this cancer-related inflammation are now being unravelled, resulting in the identification of new target molecules that could lead to improved diagnosis and treatment.

Liver fibrosis is one of the processes that occurs when the liver is damaged.
Fibrosis is both a sign of liver damage and a potential contributor to liver failure via progressive cirrhosis of the liver.
Liver fibrosis is the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins including collagen that occurs in most types of chronic liver diseases. Advanced liver fibrosis results in cirrhosis, liver failure, and portal hypertension and often requires liver transplantation. Our knowledge of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of liver fibrosis has greatly advanced. Activated hepatic stellate cells, portal fibroblasts, and myofibroblasts of bone marrow origin have been identified as major collagen-producing cells in the injured liver. These cells are activated by fibrogenic cytokines such as TGF-beta1, angiotensin II, and leptin. Reversibility of advanced liver fibrosis in patients has been recently documented, which has stimulated researchers to develop antifibrotic drugs. Emerging antifibrotic therapies are aimed at inhibiting the accumulation of fibrogenic cells and/or preventing the deposition of extracellular matrix proteins. Although many therapeutic interventions are effective in experimental models of liver fibrosis, their efficacy and safety in humans is unknown. This review summarizes recent progress in the study of the pathogenesis and diagnosis of liver fibrosis and discusses current antifibrotic strategies.

Usually there is hope for the liver cancer in the early stages of it. Stage IV is the last stage of liver cancer.

Unfortunately, if liver cancer is found in the final stages it might be hard to fix especially if it has become metastatic. A liver transplant is usually the only way to survive. The final stage is usually the last stage. The following are the symptoms of final stage of liver cancer.

symptoms of final stage of liver cancer can be:
Cirrhosis,Jaundice,Metastasized,Fever,Loss of Appetite,Pain.
sleep:
Lastly a true sign of a person in the final stages of cancer is their sleep patterns. A person will be totally fatigued. They will tend to sleep most of the time. It is a sign that their body is shutting down.

the liver works and functions. The portal vein carries nutrient rich blood from the intestines to the liver and the hepatic artery supplies the liver with blood that is rich in oxygen. Multiple types of tumors can develop in the liver because the liver is made up of many various cells. Tumors that are cancerous are termed malignant and tumors that do not contain cancer are termed benign. Liver cancer is characterized by the presence of malignant hepatic tumors — tumors or growths on or in the liver.

Liver cancer is a cancer arising from the liver. The liver is made up of different cell types. However, liver cells make up 80% of the liver tissue. Thus, the majority of primary liver cancers arises from liver cells and is called hepatocellular cancer or carcinoma.

There are a number of benign liver tumors. Hemangiomas are the most common benign tumor of the liver, and occur when a benign, blood-filled tumor forms within the liver. Other benign tumors include adenomas and focal nodular hyperplasia Although these tumors do not invade surrounding tissues or metastasize, it is often difficult to tell the difference between benign and malignant tumors on radiographic imaging.

The liver is the largest solid organ in the body. It measures about 8 inches horizontally and 6.5 inchesvertically and is 4.5 inches thick.
The liver weighs about three and a half pounds.

It is lying beneath the diaphragm in the right hypochondrium and upper part of the epigastric region. As an exocrine gland, it secretes bile; it initially receives most absorbed nutrients through the portal vein; it detoxifies drugs and many exogeneous substances and is also of great importance in fat, carbohydrate, and protein metabolism; also stores glycogen.

This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion, via the emulsification of lipids. It also performs and regulates a wide variety of high-volume biochemical reactions requiring highly specialized tissues, including the synthesis and breakdown of small and complex molecules, many of which are necessary for normal vital functions
